America
A beautiful biographical piece by Peter W. Schramm.
“We are going to America,” my father said.
“Why America?” I prodded.
“Because, son. We were born Americans, but in the wrong place,” he replied.
Peter Schramm writes of his family in Hungary and eventually in the USA. This is the immigrants that we want. The ones who want to be here. Who want to be Americans. Who yearn to have what America has to offer. People who Mr. Shramm’s father describes – “born Americans, but in the wrong place“. To paraphrase The Armorer, people who “acknowledge that there’s a reason they left the old place, and don’t demand to re-establish it here.”
