Gone Geek?
I’d like to know at what point I turned into a geek. I know it was sometime after I became a graphic designer. My first design job included a lot of hands on construction and production. We made our own signs and displays. Even went so far as to build our own display cabinets, works of art made of red oak and glass. The next job involved wearing a tie and meeting with clients, that was probably a turning point of some kind. That’s when I started wearing wingtips and not cowboy boots with jeans. I ditched the tie after that job, but I’ve had to keep a respectable public appearance since then. Customers don’t like to hire broken down cowboys to do their design work. Bit by bit I’ve evolved from the cowboy I started out as into this geeky version of myself that writes a blog. I came to realize this as I was setting up an e-mail account today. Nothing out of the ordinary, it’s just an e-mail account, right? Except I happened to note when setting it up, how many other e-mail accounts I already had. Why does someone need ten e-mail accounts? Is the geek condition curable?
So, when did you notice you were a geek?

No sir. It’s a done deal and there’s no turning back.
But let not your heart be troubled – you have plenty of company.
