Chocolate cake…
My wife made an incredible chocolate cake for my daughter’s birthday this weekend. She’s an incredible cook as a rule, but this cake was almost beyond description. The recipe called it a Black Midnight cake, and she added mint fudge frosting between the layers and pink peppermint frosting on the outside. (The daughter likes pink.) This cake was so rich that I had to stop after a piece and a half.
Stopping after a piece and a half may not seem significant, but let me put it in perspective. In the early 90s I had a piece of chocolate cake not nearly as good as my wife’s. Shortly after finishing it I had an allergic reaction to an ingredient. After taking the proper medication, and four hours of thinking I was going to die, I wanted a second piece. That’s how much I like good chocolate cake. If she makes me a cake like this for my birthday I think I’ll actually be looking forward to my next birthday.

Yuck. I’m anti-chocolate. The taste does nothing for me… which I’m told is a shame since I live relatively close to Hershey, PA.

I’ll pretend you didn’t say that. Just kidding. Chocolate isn’t my only vice, but it’s the only one I don’t feel guilty about. Though I don’t indulge often, I’m particularly fond of hot cocoa. Alton Brown’s recipe is the best I know of.

As Bill Cosby says, “Chocolate cake,… that’s nutrition!”

I’m an chocoholic, from a long line of chocolholics. I have a fantastic devil’s food cake recipe that was my great-grandmother’s. I’ve never tried it with mint fudge frosting however, that sounds incredible!
And I would add, Bre, that if Hershey’s is your idea of chocolate, it’s no wonder you don’t like it…

I guess that was a chocolate cake to die for! I myself would probably knock one of the kids down to get the last piece of a really good chocoloate cake, mebbe even the wife, but after suffering an allergic reaction? That’s hard core. I salute you sir! *bangs heels together*

Dark chocolate is my favorite kind of chocolate. Chocolates have some natural antioxidants too.;’;

I keep telling myself I eat chocolate because it’s good for me.
