Virginia Tech Shooting
Virginia Tech, and various news agencies are reporting an ongoing shooting incident on the Virginia tech campus. CNN is reporting: “One reportedly dead in Virginia Tech shooting – CNN.com.
Other local sources are reporting as many as four people shot, and I’m trying to follow up on that. I wonder if this will turn out to be related to bomb threats that were reported last week.
Other sources reporting:
- One Dead After Shooting at Virginia Tech Dorm – WAVY TV 10
- 1 Killed in Shooting at Virginia Tech – www.wtopnews.com
- MyFox Colorado | Report: One Killed In Shooting On Virginia Tech Campus
Update: I just talked to another source who says “the suspect may have been contained.” The went on to say that 20-30 people may be injured.
Update: Some sources on campus are reporting that there are multiple gunmen. The news about having a gunman contained hasbeen verified from another source. I don’t know how reliable these sources are, but they’re saying the same thing.
Update: There still appears to be one or possibly two gunman on campus, and one gunman is in custody. I’ve again that 20-30 people may be injured. That’s the third time I’ve heard those numbers used.

I’ve deleted what I considered an inappropriate comment, this post doesn’t need any politics. I’ve also removed the comment that brought the inappropriateness to my attention. Thank you Drake. Normally I would have caught it quicker, but I was fleeing.

We need to take time to love on those that are not at the top of the social chain. We may never truly know the motive behind such horrific actions that the killer uses to justify his or her means. However when the downtrodden and socially uncool are are excepted I believe a major motive is removed.

my deepest condolences goes out to those who have lost and to those affected by this situation. Living in the DMV area ( DC,Virginia, MD) it has had some effect on us truely. I think that this country has gone to a lower low, if i may , becuase it is ridiculious when students cant be safe anymoore in school. Honestly what has this world come to when there is a record of the deadlist mass shooting, VT now toping that list. It just shows that there is honestly something wrong with today’s youth and no one can be balmed except that child not eh parents. I come from a broken home left to fend for myself but u dont see me shooting anyone, we are all of soundmind adn should take responsbility for out actions, this guy killed himself and wont truely see the heart break he has caussed… it is time for america to wake up and so something… it may happen once in awhile but thats once in a while too much… as a student ready to embark to new state for college, i no longer ever think i can feel safe… this has hit so close to home…/
May the victims R.I.P and the familys find courage in GOD to get through this horrific event… my prayers are with you… such young minds that could have made a differance to my socirty are gone becuase of some crazy ass fool… truely what has this world come too?

I live in Northern Canada and have heard of this tragedy on CTV NewsNet.
My heart goes out in sympathy to the families of all the victims.
It is always sad to hear when someone takes actions like this.
I am dismayed at the lack of response from the Administration with the delay in response to what happened. Two hours is appalling, even 5 minutes after first hearing of something like this isn’t soon enough.
If the Administration had acted sooner, people would still be alive and uninjured.
I seriously hope that there is an inquiry as to why there wasn’t immediate action to keep this from happening.
Again, my deepest sympathies go out to the families and vicims of this tragedy.

As I watch and listen to the Virginia tech service on the television the thought keeps going through my mind that the shooter was a hookie too. I wonder if anyone from Virginia tech has reached out to the parents and family of this troubled soul. They too lost a son.

Hi,
I’m french and I just wanna tell you how much I’m with you I can’t understand what you feel right now… I just wanna tell you how much I’m horrified and chocked by this. I can’t understand how a young boy can do that it’s so unbelievable you know it seems like a dream a fiction not like the reality!!
You have my deepest condoleances…for the victims and the families
You must stay strong and be positive to think about the future.
I send you a message from France just for you to know that we are with you!
Be strong, be brave

“Loner†– that’s what the media is calling the shooter, and this shows how much society misunderstands the true nature of these psychologically troubled high school/college kids like Cho. If these misunderstandings and generalizations continue, then I’m afraid more people like Cho will be forced into action. These people can only be convinced to do otherwise if we understand them more beyond our misconceptions.

Barbara, that’s a very good thought. It would be difficult for me to do, and harder for people who lost loved ones themselves, but a good idea none the less. To some, it will come with time I suppose, others will likely never be able to see their loss.

I guess this is a good time to bring God in. When people die, you feel it’s necessary to bring in God even if you haven’t before. It’s not about politics or reason. It’s what you do as a ‘United Country’. It’s not over, it’s not a consumption materialistic reality. It’s what you do.

Yeah we’re all really shocked by the recent shootings at Virginia Tech. We don’t know if the immediate response by the administration was sufficient to contain the threat, and it’s unclear what exactly motivated the killer. Now all we can do is mourn for the victims…

It wasn’t. They used three methods to warn and notify staff, faculty and students. 1. The website – crashed. 2. E-mail – server overloaded. 3. Voice mail – overloaded. Three methods, three failures. They learned nothing from the Morva incident.

I think this matter let the whole world’s people shocking.
The student who open fired had not considered the result.
Perhaps he had his reason. The American government must take the question of race seriously,
in order to avoid similar case occurred repeatedly that unable to make up.
We should not have the prejudice to their people(Korean)who had open fired.
Eventually,I send meaning of the mourning to the dead family member.

The Virginia Tech shooting shook me at April 16.
I can’t believe why happened.
I saw the news with watery eyes.
Too many people separated their family suddenly.
‘Don’t blame anyoneï¼â€™ Many people said.
I thought we could do the thing
that prayed for those victims in order to let them do not have obsession with alive persons or family.
I hope the victims can go away smoothly.
The victims separated the world early because I think they just have to do something.
So, let us pray for the victims.

“Things Don’t Add Up — Anomalies in the VA Tech Slayings”
by Salvador Astucia, April 27, 2007
As the world knows, April 16, 2007 was a horrific day in America. 33 students and faculty members died in a shooting rampage at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia. At 7:15 am, two young people–male and female–were shot and killed in a Virginia Tech dormitory room at West Ambler Johnston Hall. Two and a half hours later, at 9:45 am, police responded to shootings at Norris Hall, but the doors were barricaded shut. Within ten minutes, they entered the hall and found 31 dead bodies and approximately 30 injured students and faculty members. Among the dead was a 23-year-old male, of Korean origin. His face was badly disfigured from what police concluded was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There are conflicting reports regarding this young man’s name. The Washington Post has referred to him interchangeably as Seung Hui Cho, and Cho Seung Hui. Most reporters are calling him Cho Seung Hui; however, on April 21, 2007 (five days after the slayings), the Washington Post published a front-page article entitled “An Isolated Boy in a World of Strangers” where they repeatedly called him Seung Hui Cho. One would think our best and brightest journalists could get a few basic facts straight before they conclude without question that this young Korean man was indeed guilty of committing mass-murder. One would think a basic point of agreement would be the name of the perpetrator. But why trifle with minor details like the name of a dead Korean who reportedly shot roughly 60 people with two handguns, left approximately 30 survivors, none of whom were able to identify him? But the media says he’s guilty, so that’s all that matters. Case close.
Nevertheless, since the young man’s name is a question, I will refer to him as Cho for the remainder of this article. Besides the anomaly of Cho’s name, I have noticed lots of inconsistencies and peculiar occurrences regarding the Virginia Tech slayings. The “case closed” mentality centers around the fact that a package was received by NBC News a few days after the slayings, allegedly sent by Cho before he reportedly committed mass-murder and took his own life. The package reportedly contained a video tape of Cho spewing hateful remarks. It also contained voluminous documents, including two plays he authored, and other writings that espoused extreme political views, according to NBC News. He reportedly mailed the package to NBC News in between the two sets of killings, an event that is highly questionable in its own right. Upon receipt of the damning package by NBC, all serious investigations essentially evaporated. Did it occur to anyone that Cho had been set up to take the blame for the actions of others?
Here is a summary of questions and anomalies I have gathered so far:
1. How could one person kill 30 people in a matter of minutes?
2. No eye-witness identified Cho as the shooter.
3. Jay Leno publicly compared Cho to Lee Harvey Oswald.
4. Matt Lauer and the Washington Post claim Cho believed the U.S. Government murdered ex-Beatle John Lennon.
5. The news media has collectively labeled Cho an insane person, but with little evidence.
6. Emmanuel College professor, Nicholas Winset was fired for facilitating a discussion about the Virginia Tech slayings and the pros and cons of gun control.
7. There are conflicting accounts about the clothing worn by Cho while he was allegedly shooting his victims.
8. Why would a Korean–of all ethnicities–shame his family the way Cho did?
9. Cho was reportedly a loner, but Korean men are often shunned by Americans because of vast cultural differences.
10. Why did Cho commit suicide by shooting himself in the face?
11. How do we know it was Cho who mailed the incriminating video and documents to NBC News?
12. Why is Karl Thornhill not a suspect for the double homicide on the morning of April 16, 2007?
13. Could a satanic cult near Blacksburg have been involved in the slayings?
14. Why did Bush endorse witchcraft within the military shortly after the slayings?
The following points are the same issues previously raised, but with additional commentary:
Point # 1. How could one person kill 30 people in a matter of minutes? According to the news media, Cho shot approximately 60 people at Norris Hall, 30 of whom died immediately. Cho had no training in firearms and only used two handguns. Had he used a machine gun or a bomb, the high casualty number might not seem so strange. But he only used two handguns, and apparently no one tried to overpower him. One would think that with approximately 60 shooting victims, at least one would have successfully overpowered him. No one is questioning how he accomplished this task, but it seems like an impossible feat for one person with no firearms training.
Comment by Salvador Astucia — April 29, 2007 @ 5:53 pm
I’ll leave this last comment up, but I disagree with large parts of it. Most of the points seem a little silly, others more uninformed. With the exception of confused initial reports, I’ve seen no information for instance that would suggest there was more than on disturbed individual involved.
The confusion about the name is the difference between the Asian tradition of putting family name first, and the European tradition of family name last. They’re reporting the same name.
I’ve removed a couple of extra links from the bottom of the comment.
