I stopped by today to answer a comment question and realized my site was being redirected elsewhere. I had to drop my blogroll because they were inserting redirect code. That’s bit low. I’ll leave it off for now. I don’t need any traffic and I doubt that it’s helping anyone else. So apparently I was gone for a while but now I’m back. The site is still tragically out of date.
The question was asked if I was still here. Yes I am! I’m doing well. Doing a lot of artwork of various kinds. I’ve been doing a lot of photography for the last few years. I’ve always done some, but my muse seems to have turned more that direction of late. I’m considering reinventing this site as some sort of photo-blog. I’m thinking I would feature other outdoor photographers more than my own work, but I’m still undecided. If anyone has any thoughts on what a good site featuring outdoor photography should be, I’d love to hear it.
I keep saying I’m going to start blogging again… and yet I don’t. Just can’t seem to find my muse. Working, reading, enjoying the weather. Yes, I actually do like Winter. Nothing quite as these guys though. Beautiful dogs, beautiful photography.
Do you live in a rough neighborhood? Instead of getting a dog for you backyard have a look at this Paintball Sentry Gun.
Sure, I have no reason to own one of these, but I want one none the less. Having a bad day, set it up on the front porch and order a pizza… delivered. I’d likely get arrested, and I doubt I’d ever get pizza delivered again, but you have to admit it would be funny. Nice solution to that annoying neighbor’s dog too.
With a review like this, I might have to go to a theater to see this. While I’m a big fan of movies in general, and Batman in particular, I haven’t seen a movie in the last decade that I’ve felt worth going to a theater for. There’s been a few movies that I’ve regretted missing on the big screen sure, but there been so many I’m happy to have missed that it makes up for it.
Before the movie I thought Heath would be the sentimental favorite to win an Oscar. Now I don’t see how you can logically choose anyone else. The man owns this film in the same way De Niro owned Raging Bull. He devours the part and the part IS the film, full and complete. Ledger’s Joker is terrifying because he makes decent points upon occasion and you never know his true motivation for wanting to tear everything down. He’s smart, driven, and fully lethal.
I always thought Ledger was one of those actors who screamed potential. He was fun to watch in a movie, but you always wondered how much better he was going to get. Tragically, we’ll never know, but it looks like at least some of that potential came out in this movie.
I just want Christopher Nolan to keep making movies. I’m willing to start some sort of fund if necessary.
What exactly is the point of the game Guitar Hero? Spending tens or even hundreds of hours learning to play a fake guitar? Why don’t they actually learn to play the guitar? With the time commitment some of these people make for the game, learning the actual guitar isn’t really out of line. They won’t play like Bonnie Raitt or anything, but they’d be learning something real.
It’s not going to happen of course. They’ll continue to flock to stores to buy fake guitars so that they can spend hundreds of hours learning to pretend to play the guitar. I just don’t get it.
The District, rebuffed by the Supreme Court last month in a landmark decision on its 32-year-old gun ban, could soon be headed back to court over a new gun law that could take effect as early as Wednesday.
I’m actually a little surprised they waited this long. I expected them to immediately try something like this, but apparently the Supreme Court loss took them by surprise.
City officials said the legislation will “clarify that firearms in the home must be stored unloaded and either disassembled (or) secured with a trigger lock, gun safe or similar device,” with an exception made for a firearm used against a “reasonably-perceived threat” of immediate harm to a person within a registered gun owner’s home.
That has got to be about the stupidest things I’ve read lately. Am I understanding that to say that you should wait until the threat is reasonable, and within your home, then assemble your firearm? Mind boggling. Pretty much what I expected from DC.
Kait Duplaga used Apple’s Back to My Mac application to access her missing laptop from another Leopard-based machine. She was then able to run her Apple PhotoBooth software installed on the stolen laptop to photograph one of the thieves while he was using her machine.
This isn’t a show that I normally would watch, but this guy can really dance… or something. I’m not really sure what I’d call it. What ever it is, he’s really talented.
Because… it’s all about me. OK, it’s not actually about me at all, but they do link to me.The First Rule of Blogging is the first of what appears to be a series about blogging advice.
I’ve always been fascinated by the contradictions in life. You must do this, you must not do this. For every rule there is someone who made it big by breaking that rule. It’s a good post, I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Caution, severe immaturity warning! If you’re more mature than the average teen age male, don’t bother following this link. Fortunately that doesn’t apply to most of my regulars.
Nearly 26 years after his death, Army Master Sgt. Woodrow “Woody” Keeble was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor Monday for his efforts during the Korean War.
About damn time. Delayed for decades due to “A series of paperwork errors and missed deadlines” @#$% idiots.
Update: As a commenter pointed out, the citation’s description is much better than CNN’s.
Leading the support platoon, Master Sergeant Keeble saw that the attacking elements had become pinned down on the slope by heavy enemy fire from three well-fortified and strategically placed enemy positions. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Master Sergeant Keeble dashed forward and joined the pinned-down platoon. Then, hugging the ground, Master Sergeant Keeble crawled forward alone until he was in close proximity to one of the hostile machine-gun emplacements. Ignoring the heavy fire that the crew trained on him, Master Sergeant Keeble activated a grenade and threw it with great accuracy, successfully destroying the position.
Go read the rest of the citation, it’s worth the time. Keep in mind while reading it that this was the 20th. This is significant because as mentioned elsewhere, Master Sergeant Keeble was wounded first on October 15, then again on October 17, 18, 19, and the 20th.
Official records confirm Keeble was initially wounded on October 15, and then again on October 17, 18 and 20 – for which he received only one Purple Heart. For his bravery on the 18th he was awarded a Silver Star. His heroism on the 20th made Keeble a legend and won him a recommendation for the Medal of Honor. – Wikipedia
Keeble had thus far suffered two rifle wounds to his left arm, a grenade to his face that almost removed his nose and a badly twisted knee; on the 19th, doctors reportedly removed 83 pieces of festering shrapnel Keeble sustained from a concussion grenade the previous day. – Wikipedia
One of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid is being made into a movie. It’s nice to see that the live action version seems to keep the cartoon-like feel of the original. I’m looking forward to Speed Racer.
Just because you’re jotting a short note to someone, doesn’t mean it can be incomprehensible gibberish. I’ve received a number of e-mails recently that look like they were typed by a child. These are supposed to be serious comments on a serious subject, and the author couldn’t take the time to write clearly. How am I supposed to take something seriously when upwards of half the words are misspelled?
Sure it may be just e-mail, but spelling does matter. Really, it does.

Matt Heaton is talking about Microsoft again. It’s not flattering.
Microsoft has done this to themselves because they are either incapable of producing a quality product or they don’t care anymore if their product is great. Either way its not a company I will do business with.
I have to agree. Due to client requirements I’ve been using Office 2007 and MS SharePoint Designer a bit lately. Now I can see that 2007 is an improvement over previous versions of Office, but that really doesn’t take much. SharePoint Designer however, is in a whole class by itself. It is far and away the worst piece of supposed design software I’ve ever seen. The user interface is convoluted, the code it produces is crap. I’m really going to enjoy dumping it in the trash when this project is over. I won’t be using it again. I can see some benefit to SharePoint for people who need to collaborate and don’t share a workspace, but that’s the best they could do? I think Mr. Heaton is right, “they don’t care anymore if their product is great.” It’s a shame they’ve managed to corner so much of the computer OS market. It’s time someone took that away from them.
