The old saying “A battle is won by one who is willing to take the field” certainly applies to body building. One must not only be willing to fight but also willing to train and put in the time. Too many guys come into a gym and think they have a spot to bench press or squat and that’s it. But that’s not true. The body needs a full range of motion to build the most muscle possible.
Recently the women’s team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida faced an obstacle on their path to medals. They had a great workout in practice and then met an obstacle on the real floor in the games. Her strength training routine included squatting with dumbbells and pressing overhead. In each of the games they could work out the problem with a compromise: putting equal weights on the chest and legs so that the overall total was higher than any of the competitors.
Afterward all eyes were on the women. It was clear to see that they had developed some core strength and were getting stronger as the game went on. But they also knew that this was just the beginning. There were going to have to be other core exercises like squats, deadlifts, shoulder presses and bench presses that were used as part of the workout for gold. The core strength training exercise must be part of the routine that accompanies the strength training to be effective.
The other factor that the girls lacked was the frequency of the exercise. They would work out every other day and not go back into the gym until another heavy exercise session was coming up. There is nothing wrong with sticking to one heavy exercise but it takes away from the effectiveness of your exercise session. Instead what you need to do is have a routine where you rotate the exercises so that the full body of your body is exercised at least twice a week.
It’s important to add to your workout some fun and not just stick to the same old boring workout volleys. So for the next year, add some new verb phrases to your daily beast. Some other ideas are; power clean, power squat, power clean and power squatting. This will ensure that you don’t just get back to the same old routine for your workout sessions but you will add some variation to the routine and keep your body guessing each time you hit the gym.
Your workout is a key to burning calories, building muscle and keeping the weight off. You want to make sure that the workout you select is beneficial to you and that you don’t overdo it. This year make sure you select workout that will build the entire body. If you have trouble finding an exercise routine that you like try something new like circuit training or mountain boarding. It doesn’t matter what type of workout it is you just need to find one that works for you.
